Mindfulness & Healthcare Education Video

My teaching philosophy has been shaped by my experience as a nurse clinician with the Division of Adolescent Medicine at BC Children’s Hospital (BCCH). My teaching values have evolved through reflection on and awareness of what I have found to be most effective over 20 years of professional experience as a clinician and educator. My mindfulness practice has also contributed to my personal growth and to greater self-awareness in my role as an educator.

I have transitioned into embracing contemplative pedagogy, bringing awareness to my inner life and appreciation of community, relationships, expression, and the meaning of life and fulfillment. Through modeling contemplative pedagogy, I am able to create the space for learners to connect with their own values and life experiences.

I had the opportunity to interview Dr. Dzung Vo, my mentor, who introduced me to the principles of being a mindful educator. Dr. Dzung Vo shares his story of how mindfulness and contemplative pedagogy as shaped his experience as an educator. This video demonstrates how Dr. Dzung Vo aims to aspire Thich Nhat Hanh’s message: “Happy teachers will change the world” into an academic health care setting, like BC Children's Hospital.
